Scammers posing as utility workers target small businesses, churches


NO REPORTS OR NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. SCAMMERS POSING AS UTILITY WORKERS ARE KICKING INTO HIGH GEAR AS WE GET CLOSER TO THE HOLIDAY. HECO SAYS IT RECEIVED 10 SCAM REPORTS ON WEDNESDAY AND FIVE YESTERDAY. THAT BRINGS THE TOTAL NUMBER OF SCAM PHONE CALLS TO 100 THIS YEAR. MALLEY AND THE BIG ISLAND HAVE RECORDED ABOUT 20 EACH SO FAR. SCAMMERS APPEAR TO BE TARGETING SMALL BUSINESSES AND CHURCHES. OUR CHURCH MEMBER ASKED A LOT OF QUESTIONS AND AT ONE — THEY WERE ASKING US TO GO TO A SCORE TO GET SOME KIND OF MONEY THAT WE COULD GET THAT WAS ONE WEEK STARTED THINKING SOMETHING WAS WRONG.
